Dr. Odafe Ejenavi Bags Global Chartered Institute of Energy Management Fellowship Award

Abuja, Nigeria – In a momentous stride for Nigeria’s evolving energy architecture, Dr. Odafe Ejenavi has emerged as one of the nation’s most distinguished thought leaders, earning the prestigious Research Fellowship of the Global Chartered Institute of Energy Management (GCIEM), Canada.

His induction held at the esteemed Carton Swiss Hotel in Utako, Abuja signifies far more than a personal milestone; it represents a bold affirmation of his visionary contributions to petroleum geology, environmental intelligence, and the governance frameworks shaping Nigeria’s oil, gas, and emerging energy frontiers. With a career defined by scientific depth, regulatory excellence, and an unwavering commitment to sustainable energy development, Dr. Ejenavi stands at the nexus of innovation, policy, and global energy transformation.

In a historic recognition of his outstanding contributions to Nigeria’s energy and environmental sectors, Dr. Ejenavi was formally inducted as a Research Fellow of the Global Chartered Institute of Energy Management (GCIEM), Canada. The ceremony celebrated his pioneering work in petroleum geology, environmental stewardship, and energy sector governance.

Dr. Ejenavi’s academic and research trajectory reflects a multidisciplinary mastery of energy and sustainability. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Geology from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, a Master’s degree in Petroleum Geology from the University of Benin, and a Doctorate in Environmental Science from Lancaster University, UK. His doctoral dissertation, “Application of Whole-Cell Biosensor for the Impact of Crude Oil Exploration on the Environment of the Niger Delta”, remains a landmark study illuminating the environmental consequences of hydrocarbon extraction.

With experience spanning the upstream, midstream, and downstream oil and gas sectors, Dr. Ejenavi began his professional journey in the Exploration Department of NNPC NPDC during his NYSC year and currently serves at the Nigerian Midstream & Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA). His work in regulatory oversight, operational coordination, and stakeholder engagement continues to enhance transparency, compliance, and modernization across Nigeria’s energy landscape.

A prolific researcher and respected voice in energy policy, Dr. Ejenavi has authored influential papers on petroleum exploration, energy economics, and environmental governance. He holds membership and fellowship positions with respected bodies, including the Nigerian Association of Petroleum Explorationists (NAPE)—affiliated with the American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG)—the Nigerian Mining & Geosciences Society (NMGS), and the International Association for Energy Economics (IAEE). His insights are increasingly sought after at both national and international policy roundtables.

Dr. Ejenavi’s global relevance was further demonstrated through his participation as a panelist at the First Nigerian Annual Hydrogen Conference in November 2024, themed “Building a Hydrogen Economy for Nigeria.” The conference, which welcomed participants from Germany, Italy, the USA, Namibia, the UK, Kenya, and beyond, highlighted Nigeria’s emerging role in hydrogen development, renewable energy, and sustainable energy systems.

Beyond technical and regulatory leadership, Dr. Ejenavi has contributed immensely to social empowerment. As founder of the Global Elites Co-operative Society, he has championed financial inclusion, supported vulnerable groups, and fostered community resilience—reflecting his belief that energy leadership must translate into societal upliftment.

During the induction, Prof. Stephen Lazi, Africa President of GCIEM, charged all awardees—including Dr. Ejenavi—to uphold the highest benchmarks of ethical leadership and professional excellence. According to him:

He further emphasized that these values are essential for Africa’s long-term energy stability, innovation, and global competitiveness.

A devoted family man, Dr. Ejenavi is married to Dr. Mrs. Onome Lisa Ejenavi, a distinguished law professor. Together, they are raising children rooted in discipline, service, and excellence—reflecting the same values that have defined his distinguished professional journey.

The GCIEM Fellowship stands as a defining milestone in Dr. Ejenavi’s illustrious career.
