1 Dead as Nigerian Forces Intercept, Arrest Top-Level Leaders of Violent Islamic Sect

MEMBERS of the Joint Task Force operating in the city of Kano, Kano State, on Monday intercepted some top level members of the violent Islamic sect popularly known as Boko Haram.

According to the spokesperson of the Force, Lieutenant Ikediche Iweha, the suspects were apprehended during a routine stop and search operation in the Haturu area of Kano.

Among those who were in the vehicle at the time of Monday’s encounter was a man known for being the voice of the outlaw group, who goes by the name Abu Qaqa.

He was said to have died after he was shot while trying to evade arrest.

Mr. Qaqa had previously been declared captured by the authorities in February. This was before the sect issued a denial to this effect, saying no such capture occurred.

Boko Haram is yet to issue a confirmation or denial of the event.
