2011 Carnival: Abuja Wears a New Look

Beautiful colours, costumes and decorations adorned many areas of the FCT as the 2011 Abuja Carnival began on Saturday.

Correspondents who monitored the carnival reported that the Moshood Abiola Way, Area 1

Garki, serving as one of the carnival routes, was wearing a new look.

 

The road was decorated and adorned with flowers and bright colours.

At the Area 1 take off-point of the carnival, troupes from various states displayed their regalia with splendour.

Miss Elizabeth Akombo, the leader of the Nasarawa State contingent, said that the state was fully prepared to defend its victory since 2005.

As at the time of filing this report, contingents from the FCT, Nasarawa, Benue , Akwa Ibom, Kaduna and Ebonyi states assembled at the take-off point for the show.

Mr Samuel Bello, Director of Logistic in the FCT Social Development, had earlier said that more than 12,000 participants were taking part in the sixth edition of the carnival.

He said that the number of participants in this yeat’s edition surpassed that of 2010.

The carnival took off at Area 1 en route Area 10, Eagle Square, Asokoro, Millennium Park, Jabi and Nicon Luxury.

It is expected to last till Nov. 29.
