The 2025 LGAN Northern Zone Golf Championship commenced on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, with a press conference at the Minna Cantonment Golf Club (MCGC) in Niger State to officially announce the beginning of the tournament.
No fewer than 250 golfers from across the country jostled for honours at the unique and lush green course of the Minna Cantonment Golf Club (MCGC).
Other events which preceeded the press conference include; the ceremonial tee-off, hoisting of flags, a colourful parade, which saw TYB International Golf Resort and Country Club, Abuja emerge overall winners as well as an exciting Raggae night celebration to wrap up Day One activities.
The tournament proper teed off on Thursday with the Ladies handicap 0 to 28, 29 to 36, as well as the veterans slugging it out for honours at the lush green course of the Minna Cantonment Golf Club.
A high powered delegation which included the LGAN President, Evelyn Oyome, LGAN 1st Vice president, Dr Lami Ahmed, LGAN Zonal VP West, Evelyn Balogun, LGAN Zonal VP South, Princess Habibah, as well as lady captains from the various clubs in the northern zone paid a courtesy call on His Royal Highness, Alhaji (Dr) Umar Faruq Bahago (OON), the Emir of Minna palace, where they sought the Emir’s blessing and presented some valuable gifts to him.
An all-white party to celebrate all lady captains in the North wrapped up the event’s activities on Thursday.
The championship continued on Friday with ladies handicap 0 to 28 and also featured the men’s handicap 0 to 28.
A colourful cultural night was organised at the MCGC club house to wrap up Friday’s activities.
The final round of the ladies handicap 0 to 28, and the men’s handicap 0 to 28 categories was played on Saturday with 45 ladies making the cut.
The championship, which began on Wednesday, June 18 ended on Saturday, June 21, 2025 with a presentation ceremony/ banquet which saw Teenage sensation Grace Agbo of the IBB International Golf and Country Club, Abuja emerge as the best gross winner.
The 18-year-old Agbo returned a total gross score of 246 over three days to beat 45 other lady golfers who made the final cut in the ladies handicap 0-18 female category on Saturday.
The winners of the various categories, as well as participants, were awarded with beautiful trophies, medals, and lovely gifts.
