Nigerians have urged President Muhammadu Buhari to spend the $322 million loot recovered from Nigeria’s former military head of state,
Sani Abacha on job creation, improve electricity supply, boost health care and build new roads.
This is according to an opinion poll conducted nationwide by NOI Poll in the first week of July.
Information available to SHARPEDGENEWS Online, averred that federal government is proposing to share the recovered funds to the poorest in the society through a feeding mechanism.
NOI Poll said: “Following the news of the recently repatriated $322 million from the government of Switzerland and plans by the federal government of Nigeria to expend the funds on its conditional cash transfer social investment programme target poor and vulnerable citizens.”
The poll according to NOI, was conducted between the 2 and 6 of July with 1,000 randomly selected phone-owning Nigerians interviewed across the country across the 6 geopolitical zones.
On the level of awareness of Nigerians about the recovered $322 million loot, it added that 8 which represents 80 percent said they are know and are award about the recovered fund, inevitably leaving 20 percent who are not aware.
The poll further revealed: “The second key question sought the opinion of Nigerians on how the repatriated Abacha loot should be spent. From the results of the poll, about a third (30 percent) of Nigerians interviewed were of the opinion that Buhari should use the funds to create employment opportunities across the country.
“This is not surprising, given the current youth bulge experienced in the country and the level of unemployment particularly among young people aged between 18 and 35 years.
