The Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI) has accused president of Christians Association of Nigeria (CAN), Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor, for calling on the Nigerian government to allow the citizens to own of guns, but instead appealed to government at all levels to ensure the safety of Muslims in the Niger Delta region as the one week ultimatum given to Muslims in the region to quit the area by some unknown groups expired.
Secretary General of JNI, Sheik Khalid Abubakar Aliyu said with the expiration of the ultimatum Muslims are under serious threats and as a result some of them have started moving out of the region because it was no longer safe for them.
According to him “Muslims are under serious threats of their lives and property in the Niger Delta region and we have not heard anything from the government. With information reaching us, some of the Muslims have started moving out, so it means the threat is becoming a reality”.
“One of the most pathetic and disheartening is how somebody like the President of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) will stand up and call on the government to allow the owning of guns by Nigerians in this situation of security threats where there are so many restive youths who are for whoever has the price to engage them. Countries that have legalized guns are they any better? An example is the Norway massacre where a young man killed about 90 students”.
“Therefore it is uncalled for and I think when people who occupy leadership positions, especially of religious nature they should speak with wisdom and I think their utterances should be those that will bring about peaceful coexistence, understanding and good social relations with one another.”
There is an inherent threat from some Christian militants from Kaduna who call themselves Akwat Akwop which was carried by some newspapers and read, ‘’Christians militants threaten to hunt Arab nationals in Nigeria’’ where they mentioned countries like Saudi Arabia, Iran, Syria and are given orders by their superiors to hunt down these people and deal with them, which is also a very serious threat to peace and tranquility in this country. Where are the rules of the game relating to bi-lateral relations where some groups will just spring up and dash threats on people”, he said.
In another development dare devil gunmen Sunday night attacked Katari Village in Kachia local government area of Kaduna State, killing two people, including a police officer and one other civilian citizen. Katari village is about 80 kilometers away from Kaduna town, situated along Kaduna-Abuja Express Way.
Three unidentified armed men shot and killed the Policeman and an Igbo trader inside his shop at Katari market and other four persons who were critically injured are now at Saint Gerald Catholic Hospital, Kaduna.
The state commissioner of Police, CP Ballah Magaji Nasarawa who confirmed the incidence said it was a case of armed robbery and that the Police has commence investigation that would lead to the arrest of the gunmen of the act”, he stressed.
The Deputy Governor of the state, Alhaji Mukhtar Ramalan Yero in a swift reaction called an emergency security meeting with the Commissioner of Police, Alhaji Ballah Magaji Nasarawa and other top shots of military formations in the state.
Governor Patrick Ibrahim Yakowa who is in Australia has been briefed about the development, and he has been in touch with his deputy on how to strengthen security in all hot spots of the state, which have been under security watch.
