Peace Ambassador Urges Security Agencies to Befriend Trouble Makers

Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Ade Abolurin

Kenyan-born Universal Peace Ambassador, Tina Ita, on Thursday urged Nigerian security agencies to “befriend” trouble makers, to get quality information from them.

She gave the advice while addressing personnel of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Obalende Unit, Lagos, on peace and security.

“Apart from being at peace, a peacemaker must be as a counsellor that requires more of listening than talking.

“You also need to apply the servant-leadership principle. Servant-leadership means that you start by serving others and not seeking to be served. When you do this, it will be easy to learn why the troublemaker is out to make trouble,” she said.

She stated that the government relied too much on security agencies and that their failure usually embarrassed it.

“Because you have misused the power that is why we have all the problems and insecurity in the land.

“All the people you classify as Boko Haram here, we have them in Kenya. But they are all being helped by you, the security people. The reason is that when you are put somewhere to stop them, you let them pass.

“So, if you can change your perception and way of doing things, the country shall be healed,” she said.

Assistant Commandant-General, NSCDC Zone A, Lagos, Dr Sam Onyemachi, commended the peace ambassador and said his personnel would put to good use what they have learnt at the lecture.
