INEC Chairman

IN apparent pursuit of stated goals to effect reforms at the Independent National Electoral Commission, eight new commissioners were administered the oath of office on Monday by the Chairman of the Commission, Professor Attahiru Jega.

The new commissioners are: Sylvester Ezeani (Anambra), Madaki Usman (Taraba), Lawrence Azubike (Imo), Gabriel Ada (Cross River), Sam Olugbadebo (Ondo), Ishaku Dafwang (Plateau), Mrs. Gesila Okubama Khan (Bayelsa) and Mukaila Abdullahi (Jigawa)

INEC Chairman, Prof. Attahiru Jega, who disclosed at the swearing-in ceremony in Abuja, said that the commission was doing its best through a sustained effort to bring transparency and accountability into the nation’s electoral process.

The commission emphasized its readiness to effect necessary reforms in the electoral process, such that INEC will ultimately emerge as one of the best electoral bodies in Africa by 2015 when the country would hold the next general elections.

Professor Jega made it clear that the commission takes note of the appreciation of Nigerians for the little it has been able to achieve in so little time.
