INEC Plans Smooth Governorship Election in Adamawa

INEC will ensure that the January 14 governorship election in Adamawa is hitch free, Mr Kayode Idowu, Chief Press Secretary to INEC Chairman, Prof. Attahiru Jega said on Wednesday.

Idowu said in an interview in Abuja that the commission had already distributed non sensitive materials as well as ensured that trained personnel were to be engaged in the conduct of the election.

He also said that the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES) had drawn up plans to guarantee security during the election.

According to him, the committee will meet in Abuja on Monday to deliberate on ways to prevent crisis before and after election at local government and ward levels.

Governorship elections will also take place in Sokoto, Bayelsa and Cross River States this year.

These are the remaining states where elections did not hold in April as the tenure of the affected governors has yet to elapse.
