Petrol Tanker Fire in Lagos Kills 3, Destroys 40 Vehicles

A HUGE conflagration took the life of three persons on Saturday when a 33,000-litre fuel tanker with registration numbers XB-370-ATN lost its balance and collapsed, bursting into flames at Mile Two motor park along Orile-Badagry Expressway in Lagos.

The fire spread quickly destroying about 40 vehicles, equipment and offices in the process.

Two drivers present at the scene were burned to death in the inferno which eye witnesses described as hellish. The drivers were reported to be resting when the explosion happened.

The fuel tanker had been negotiating a bend at a nearby bridge when the driver lost control of it, causing it to fall and spill its content before the fire.

The state of the road at the location of the accident has been an issue for drivers using the road who reportedly have made complaints to the authorities over time without getting any response. It is believed that the condition of the road was the direct cause of the tanker accident.

A timely intervention from the Lagos Fire Service contained the fire before it caused further damage.
