Nigeria in Negotiations with Extremist Sect as Murderous Attacks Continue

DESPITE popular misgivings for the idea, it appears that representatives of the Nigerian government might have begun negotiations with the villainous members of the extreme Islamic group popularly known as ‘Boko Haram’.

The group had repeatedly stated its intention to establish its strict choice of Islamic sharia rule across Nigeria, and has gone to the extreme length of targeting both government security personnel and lately, innocent civilians in places as Christian house of worship, killing and maiming hundreds in the process.

Agents of Boko Haram have been reported to be in contact with high levels of Nigerian government, with emissaries ferrying messages back and forth between the government and the murderous criminals, led by Abubakar Shekau, who continues to be defiant in his public face.

Among the conditions being requested by the Boko Haram is the release its members currently in government captivity.

President Goodluck Jonathan had said previously that his government was not in a position to negotiate with faceless individuals, implying that his government was open to negotiation if and when the Islamic extremists were open to negotiation.

On Wednesday, security officials revealed to the public the persons who were alleged to have kidnapped an Italian and a British contractor who died during a rescue operation by British and Nigerian forces.
