-15-Year old Carried Out the Attack

FRIDAY’s suicide attack in Maiduguri, Borno State narrowly missed the Shehu of Borno, Abubakar Umar Garbai El-Kanemi, and the deputy governor of Borno State, Zanna Umar Mustapha, as they left

a mosque near the Shehu’s palace where they had gone for prayers.

Five people were reported killed in the attack suspected to have been masterminded by the shadowy group of killers, popularly known as Boko Haram, intent on subverting the Nigerian state and installing a sharia order across the country, according to the group’s manifesto.

“The suicide bomber was about 15 years old … Fortunately we both escaped unhurt,” Deputy Governor Mustapha told reporters.

Six people were also injured in the attack, military spokesman Sagir Musa told reporters.

The attack marks the latest in a series of deadly assaults mostly on innocent Nigerians by the group, which claimed responsibility for a similar attack in the middle-belt state of Jos last weekend, which led to the death of no less than 63 people of the area.

Two legislators, including a federal senator and state member of the house of assembly were killed the next day as they visited the leaders of the ravaged community on a fact-finding and commiserating trip.

Over 600 people have died so far in 2012 from Boko Haram attacks.
