Academician Decries Discrimination between Degrees in Nigeria

The Rector of Kwara Polytechnic, Mr. Mas’ud Elelu, on Friday said that the discrimination between the Higher National Diploma (HND) and university degree is unfair.

This statement was made during the matriculation ceremony of the 2012/2013 academic session of the institution.

Elelu said that the two academic qualifications  provided different categories  of education.

“The disparity between the HND and degree should not be. Let the HND stay; let degree stay.

“Both have their different usefulness. HND should be the base for technological education and it is different from university education,” he said.

The rector also gave an assurance that the school would procure a 500 KVA generator to ease epileptic power supply on campus.

He gave an assurance that the institution would provide quality polytechnic education that would place Nigeria in high pedestal.

He advised the matriculating students to shun cultism, examination malpractice and other vices that could truncate their academic pursuits.

The school matriculated a total of 7,220 students.
