Arm Forces Remembrance Celebration Inspiration for Nigerians

The annual celebration and launch of the Armed Forces Remembrance Emblem is beyond rituals but a time to openly show and pay

so much respect to fallen heroes and heroines who have paid the supreme price in their profession to ensure the peace and security of all citizenry.

The Minister for Youth and Sports Development, Mr. Sunday Dare made this statement when he was being decorated with the 2021 remembrance emblem in Abuja.

Speaking further, Dare confirmed that its an opportunity to remember and celebrate fallen heroes and heroines as they continue to live in our hearts, it is also a time to contribute a reasonable token towards the welfare of their widows, orphaned and incapable living veterans.

This will be an inspiration to those still serving to encourage them that after their exit, they too shall be remembered and that their sacrifices are deeply appreciated, he said.

Dare salutes their courage and assured that the Ministry will continue to support them since most Nigerian athletes are either from the Police Force, Army or other Sister security Agencies, Sports he said is a cross-cutting sector that unites us all for peaceful co-existence.

The Minister appreciated the gesture of the decoration and promised to wear it proudly everywhere.

Earlier, the Chairman of the Nigerian Legion, Brig. Gen. Adakole Jones Akpa (Rtd.) said the Arm Forces Remembrance Launch is about fallen heroes and heroines who participated in the UN, AU and Nigerian Civil war where some paid the supreme prize, today the living veterans are still with us as – widows, orphans and handicap. As asserted by the President, Muhammadu Buhari at the official launch, he said the labours of our heroes past, shall not be in vain.

And that the President promised to wear it worldwide.

The symbolic emblem is to ensure the welfare of veterans and their families who are among us in our societies.
