Grieving Father of Murdered Ekiti Politician Seeks FG’s Intervention

THE intervention of the attorney-general of the federation, Mr. Mohammed Adoke, has been sought in the case of the murder of Mr. Ayo Jeje, by persons who are yet to be identified for prosecution by law enforcement.

Mr. Jeje’s surviving father, Mr. Gabriel Adewunmi, made the call over the weekend for the attorney general to convene an urgent investigation into the matter of his son’s death at the hands of his assailants.

Mr. Jeje was reportedly shot dead on March 30 in Ekiti State, allegedly because he defected from the ruling Action Congress of Nigeria to the Peoples Democratic Party.

Pa Adewunmi, 81, said that unknown gunmen stormed his home in Erijinyan, brandishing dangerous weapons and attacking members of his family. According to him, his son was killed during the attack.

“They all came that day. I know all of them, they shot three of my children and one died; they also shot my wife and myself.

“As we are speaking, my wife is still lying critically injured at Federal Medical Centre with 18 bullets removed from her body; and 17 bullets were removed from my son’s body.

“It was by the grace of God that we were saved from these killers,’’ he said.

The octogenarian, who is also a community leader, alleged that the offence committed by his son was his defection from ACN to PDP and his insistence on working for PDP in the next election in 2014.

“What baffles me is that we know all the suspects, the police saw all the bullets; the boy killed is still in the mortuary and yet they have not been arraigned in court till now,’’ he lamented.

Adewunmi urged the Inspector-General of Police and the Attorney-General of the Federation to ensure protection of lives and property.

He called on the Attorney-General of the Federation to ensure that justice is done by expediting action on arraignment of the suspected killers of the politician.

Adewunmi also called on Nigerians to join forces with his family to make sure that justice is not subverted in the case
