Monday Night Mayhem in Okunland: Police Hunt for Lawmaker

The police in Kogi state has launched a man-hunt for a member of the House of Assembly, Commodore  Folusho

Daniel (rtd.) for allegedly leading a gang of about forty political hoodlums who unleashed an orgy of late night violence in Mopamuro Local Government on Monday.

Commodore Daniel, who represents Mopamuro constituency in the Kogi State House of Assembly, was said to have coordinated a gang of about forty to attack the councillorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mr. Sunday Anjorin, who successfully escaped. The attack which was said to have started at about 11P.M. on Monday left in its wake destruction of properties and failed murder attempt.

At least two of the agents of doom, the thugs engaged by the retired naval officer, were said to have been apprehended by the police command in Kogi State. The two, Ade Akogun and Lafiaji Samuel are being held in custody as their sponsor is on the run.

The gang all identified as members of Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) allegedly went from house to house at about 11.00p.m. “searching for P.D.P. members to kill and maim”. They allegedly vandalized the car of a septuagenarian, Mr. Kayode Samuel, a.k.a. Aworo. Aworo was a staunch Unity Party of Nigeria (U.P.N) foot soldier in the second Republic that was sacked by General Muhammadu Buhari on December 31st 1983.

The same political misfits went after the motor bike of another P.D.P. member, Mr. Seyi Komolafe, which they visited with arson.

Another P.D.P. member, Dayo Ademola, was allegedly hit with a pestle. He is currently receiving treatment in one of the local hospitals.

The entire Monday night brouhaha was precipitated by reported attempts by the Mopamuro lawmaker, Commodore Daniel to foist a notorious candidate on ward 06 as councilor. The members of the community said his candidate was unacceptable because of the antecedents of his late father who was said to be a wicked witch doctor.
