Lebanese Captive, Others, Freed After Shootout Left 7 Dead

A SPECIAL Anti-Robbery Squad unit in Anambra State confirmed on Saturday that it killed 7 persons suspected

to be kidnappers operating in the area.

 

According to a spokesman of the Anambra State Police Command, Mr Emeka Chukwuemeka, the incident occurred at Aguleri in the Anambra East Local Council Area of the state.

Chukwuemeka said that two of the suspects were captured at about 4pm on Friday, at the point of collecting a ransom of five million naira from their victims.

Upon their capture, the suspects took security men to their hideout, where some kidnapped people were rescued unhurt at about 8.30 p.m.

The suspect engaged security men in a shoot-out that resulted in the death of 7 of them.

He said that one of the rescued victims, simply identified as Mr Anthony, was kidnapped at Onitsha, a week ago and taken to a building, belonging to a Lagos-based businessman.

A Lebanese contractor with Consolidated Construction Company, Mr Roumauos Marroun, kidnapped at the gate of the Igbariam Campus of the Anambra State University on May 7, was among those who regained their freedom.
