A CHAPTER of the Nigerian Union of Journalists in the south-eastern state of Enugu, in Nigeria, has appointed
an Anglican bishop as ‘spiritual director’ to help free the union from ‘spiritual bondage’.
Right-Reverend Emmanuel Chukwuma appointment was confirmed on Monday through a letter presented to him by James Oparaekocha, the interim chair of the Union who said God’s intervention in the affairs of the Union is of critical importance.
Mr. Oparaekocha described the state council as being in ‘spiritual bondage’, adding that power struggle, acrimony, blackmail and pettiness were ravaging the council in the state.
Receiving the letter, Mr. Chukwuma commended the NUJ for seeking spiritual support in its affairs.
He promised the union of his support throughout his stay as the council’s spiritual director.
“We expect professionalism, sanctified and exemplified journalism from journalists. Our people need to know the truth and you must uphold it.
Rev. Chukwuma said he was honored by the appointment, which he dedicated to the Christian Association of Nigeria.
