Ondo Electoral Petition Tribunal Declines Jurisdiction on Jegede’s Prayer

The Ondo state electoral petition tribunal led by Justice Umar Abubakar on Tuesday ruled that it lacked jurisdiction to entertain the prayers of MR Eyitayo Olayinka Jegede on the procedures adopted by the All Progressive Congress, APC, in fielding  Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu and his deputy, MR Lucky Ayedatiwa in the October 2020 governorship election.

In a ruling that was delivered by Justice Umar Abubakar the tribunal refused to give a clear-cut verdict saying it lacked  jurisdiction to provide answer and interpretation to the questions raised by the petitioner, MR Eyitayo Jegede which were purely constitutional.

The ruling gave in indication of a visible stand for Governor Akeredolu.

Jegede has not disclosed his next strategy and possible legal remedies.

Observers and legal experts said that Jegede may now have to proceed to appellate court for further resolution and unknotting of the issues of those constitutionally involved in the election brouhaha.

However, sources close to the candidate of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP candidate, told Sharpedgenews that Jegede would file an appeal within the next fourteen days.

He is said to be taking today’s judgment with calmness of mind

He is expected to issue a statement in due course.

The mood in APC circle is different. It is difficult to gauge the mood in the ruling party. Calls to the commissioner of information, MR Donald Ojogo were not answered. The governor was not yet back in Akure as at press time his victory may still remain shaky.
