VC urges hard work, discipline as UniAbuja matriculates 4, 186 students

University of Abuja, FCT, on Tuesday, matriculated a total of 4,186 students, with the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Abdul-Rasheed Na’Allah, urging them to maintain hard work and discipline.

Na’Allah, while addressing the matriculating students, congratulated them on the successful admission into the institution.

He said that the university was a place for serious academic pursuit and an embodiment of the highest moral standards, adding any misconduct, in any form, would not be tolerated.

According to him, the university is running several programmes, aimed at mentoring students to understand their roles in the university and ensure they succeed after graduation.

“You are expected to combine the pursuit of learning with strict moral rectitude. Failure in any of these expectations will render staying in the university useless, both to you and the nation at large.

“We are intolerant to cultism, anti-social behaviours, all manners of rudeness to staffers and co-students and all undesirable behaviours on the campus of this university.

“You are warned that if you commit any of these atrocities, the university is not going to be sympathetic. In fact, the university will show you the way out.

“We want to make sure that this country and your parents are proud of you and that you are also proud of yourselves,” he said.

While urging the students not to allow the university to pass through them, he added that the institution had put in place a remodelled centre for entrepreneurship

“The Senate has also approved that from 200 level to 400 level, the students of the university must acquire entrepreneurial skills.

“The nation expects you to create wealth, as you are not expected to be a parasite to Nigeria and your parents do not expect you to graduate and continue to depend on them.

“You should know from the beginning that this university is providing you opportunities to acquire entrepreneurial skills, no matter your discipline.

“The university, through the international study centre, has put in place programmes of study abroad, as we intend to develop you to be global citizens.

“In addition to this, we want to give you the opportunity to travel to any part of the world,” he added.

The vice-chancellor, however, warned the newly-admitted students against involvement in acts capable of derailing their future career prospects. (NAN) (www.nannews.ng)
