The National Information Technology and Development Agency (NITDA) has urged students to upgrade their knowledge on Information and Communications Technology (ICT) for positive transformation and self reliance.
The Director General, Mr Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, made the appeal during a one day sensitization programme on Digital Media, organized by the Information and University Relations Unit of University Of Abuja.
The DG, represented by Miss Bashira Hassan, spoke on the topic ‘Exploring opportunities in the digital media space’ said ICT helps facilitate learning and information sharing while also providing effective ways for organisations to reach their audience.
In his remark, the Vice Vice-Chancellor of the university Prof. Abdul-Rasheed Na’Allah, said digital media has come to stay in tertiarry institutions and helps promote values and achievement of any institution through digitilization.
The Vice-Chancellor, represented by the Dean, school of post graduate studies Prof. Gabriel Moti, however called on students of the institution to embrace information technology for self reliance and development of the country.
The Head, Information and University Relations Unit, DR. Habib Yakoob, says the essence of the sensitization program is to create awareness for the students, staff and university community on the use of social media and exploring opportunities in tbe media space.
The publisher PRnigeria, Mr Yushau Shuaib, who spoke on tbe topic stakeholders support for promotion of organizations on social media space says social media offers opportunity for networking and building valuable customers.
