..citizens panic buying
Fuel queues have reappeared in Abuja, Lagos, and other states just hours of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s announcing that subsidy is gone.
Motorists were seen in large numbers at filling stations in Abuja, Nasarawa, and Niger states on Monday afternoon.
The announcement prompted a rush for petrol, with motorists scrambling to fill their fuel tanks amid concerns that the end of subsidy could result in an increase in the cost of PMS to over N500/litre.
NewsSpecng learned that the Conoil filling station opposite the headquarters of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited in the Central Area of Abuja, also had long queues on Monday afternoon.
In Zuba, Niger State, it was observed that many outlets were shut, as the few ones, like Mobil at Madalla, that dispensed petrol, had queues formed by motorists
The A.A Rano filing station at the maraba axis also had long queues owing to the announcement by the president.
Citizens are already panic buying, News Spec interviewed a bolt driver at the A.A Rano filing station in one man village, Nasarawa state, Mr Taiwo olanrewaju.
He said “I am here to fill my tank, only God knows how much the price might be after the subsidy is finally removed and we don’t know how difficult the coming days will be to get fuel”
Although, the price at the station had not changed as at Tuesday morning. It remained at N200 per litre.
The coming days will be critical for the new administration. All eyes will be on the Tinubu led administration to tackle this issue.
