On Monday, representatives of the Federal Government and the leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) resumed talks to address the removal of fuel subsidy by the President Bola Tinubu administration.
Following the meeting, both parties agreed to form a steering committee to receive reports from sub-committees within eight weeks.
On June 5th, Organised Labour suspended its planned nationwide strike after agreements were made with the Federal Government, including the formation of a joint committee to review proposals for wage increases or awards, the review of the World Bank Financed Cash transfer scheme, and the revival of the Compressed Natural Gas conversion program.
Present at the meeting are the delegation of the Nigeria LabourCongress (NLC), led by its President, Joe Ajaero; a delegation of the Trade Union Congress (TUC), led by its President, Festus Osifo; the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila; Special Adviser to the President on Revenue, Zachaeus Adedeji; the Special Adviser to the President Energy, Olu Verheijen, and the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Labour and Employment, Kachallom Daju.
