Trader jailed 8 month for stealing a wheelbarrow

A Jos Magistrates’ Court on Thursday sentenced a 24-year-old trader , Ahubakar Usman, to eight months imprisonment for stealing a wheelbarrow.

The judge, Mr Shawomi Bokkos, summarily sentenced Usman after he pleaded guilty to theft.

Bokkos, however, gave the convict an option to pay N50,000 fine and compensation of N12,000 to the complainant.

The judge said the punishment would serve as deterrent to other would-be offenders.

Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Insp Ibrahim Gokwat told the court that the case was reported on June 11, at the “C” Division Police Station by one Clementina Tudun , the complainant.

The prosecutor said that the convict stole the wheelbarrow worth N25,000 at the gate of Musallachin Idi where it was kept.

The offence, according to him, is punishable under the Plateau state Penal Code Law.
