Court remands 2 men for alleged armed robbery

A Makurdi Magistrates’ Court on Monday remanded one Terungwa Jude and Okereke Zion over alleged criminal conspiracy and armed robbery.

The Magistrate, Mrs. Adah Jack, did not take the plea of the defendants for want of jurisdiction.

She ordered that the defendants be remanded at the Makurdi Correctional Centre pending further investigations.
Mrs. Jack later adjourned the case to Aug. 8, for further mention.

The Police Prosecutor, Insp. James Ewache, told the court that a petition was written to the Commissioner of Police , Benue command by one Cpl. Marafa Rabi of 72 Special Force Battalion Makurdi.

The petitioner stated that he was attacked by two armed men on a motorcycle at the gate of one Mr. Mike, former Chairman Guma LGA’s house North Bank, Makurdi.

They collected his Samsung Galaxy S22 plus valued at $1,200, one Tecno phone valued #15,000 and drove off to an unknown destination.
During Police investigation the defendants were arrested and the Samsung Galaxy recovered from them.

Prosecution said investigations into the matter was still ongoing and prayed the court for another date for mention.

He said the offence contravened the Robbery and Firearm Act 2004.
