The Governorship Election Petition Tribunal in Ibadan has dismissed the petition filed by the Allied Peoples’ Movement (APM) against the victory of Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State.
The APM had challenged the Independent National Electoral Commission’s declaration of Makinde as the winner of the election.
The tribunal ruled unanimously to dismiss the petition, stating that it was frivolous and scandalous.
They awarded N1 million each in favor of Makinde and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) against APM. The tribunal also noted that the petition was filed 46 days after the party became aware that their candidate was not interested in pursuing it.
The APM had applied for a withdrawal of the petition, as their candidate had lost confidence in it and congratulated Makinde.
The party argued that their votes were not recorded in many polling units during the election.
