Muslims have converged on the Abuja National Mosque to offer special prayers for peace and sustainable development as part of activities to commemorate Nigeria’s 63rd Independence anniversary on Suday, Oct. 1.
The Imam, Dr Muhammad Kabir, led the special prayer on Friday, after observing two congregational Raka’at prayers.
He said that the day’s sermon was on the need for Nigerians to remain steadfast in unity and peaceful coexistence.
“We should remain united and hardworking so that life will be better and for us to respect the government of the day to ensure the success of this administration
“Nigerians have to show their gratitude to Allah for attaining this time as one independent Nation.
“The sermon also calls on Labour Unions as they are planning to go on strike next week.
“They should please consider and reconsider; let them engage with the government to continue dialogue.
“Definitely, strike will jeopardise the lives of the common man in the country and this is our appeal to them.”
Kabir prayed to God to guide the country’s leaders as they make decisions that affect the lives of Nigerians.
He also prayed to God to assist the country to overcome her challenges, especially in the areas of insecurity, corruption and growth of the economy.
The special prayer was attended by the President-General of the Supreme Council of Islamic Affairs and Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar, Vice-President Kashim Shettima, Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin and former Vice-President Namadi Sambo.
