Housing Ministry, FCT Fire Service Collaborate to Protect Public Buildings Against Fire Outbreak

Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Arc Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, has assured the FCT Fire Service of the ministry’s readiness to partner with the agency to protect public buildings in FCT against fire out break.

Mr Badamasi Haiba, Director Information, Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development made this known in a statement to newsmen on Thursday.

According to him, Dangiwa gave this assurance when he received a delegation of the FCT Fire Service on a courtesy visit to the ministry.

The Minister applauded the fire agency’s advocacy to ensure all buildings in FCT have fire fighting equipments installed in them as designed by architects, engineers and planners of buildings.

He said that ample access to fire fighting appliances would be given for easy access to buildings from the inception of the design.

The Minister underscored the significance of having fire fighting appliances such as fire extinguishers, sprinklers and smoke detectors available in public buildings in order to ensure safety of lives and properties.

Accordingly, Dangiwa commended the agency for their swift responses and dedication whenever their intention was needed to mitigate on fire out break incidences across the Federal Capital Territory.

Earlier in his remarks, the Acting Director of the FCT Fire Service, Mr Adebayo Zaccheaus said that, they were in the ministry to ensure consolidation on the existing working collaboration with the ministry in the fight against fire out break.

Adebayo explained that the FCT administration is advocating for all buildings in the FCT to incorporate fire security facilities in their building plans up to the construction

He stated that his agency seeks further partnership with the housing ministry on the compliance with the directives of the FCT management that all four – storey buildings and above must have fire fighting equipments installed in them to ensure protection of lives and properties.
