Sam Empowerment Foundation (SEF), an NGO, has called on the Federal Government, Nigerian leaders and other well-to-do people in the society to always carter for the needy and offer them support for the socio-economic development of the country.

Mrs Kiema Ogunlana, the Program Director of the Foundation, made the call during a Sallah party organised by the Foundation, in celebration of the Ramadan season with the indigent people living in Orozo Community in the Federal Capital Territory, FCT.

The Program Director said this was a critical period that leaders in government must prioritise people’s welfare especially the less privileged given the current economic challenges in the country.

According to her, the Sallah celebration is an initiative from the Founder/President of the Foundation, Dr. Mrs Aisha Achimugu, with an unwavering passion to improve the quality of lives of Nigerians, especially children and women living in vulnerable conditions in the country.

She added that aside the Sallah party, throughout the entire Ramadan fasting period, about 500 indigent persons, especially orphans and vulnerable children were fed daily across three communities in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT); Karu, Guzape and Garki village.

“Our founder and president, Dr. Aisha Achimugu, thought it wise that we should carry out the feeding program to celebrate the season and show love and kindness to fellow Nigerians. “We wanted to ensure that no child goes hungry after the fasting and

the program was aimed at alleviating the hunger and suffering of vulnerable persons,” Ogunlana noted.

She said the gesture had brought hope, happiness and light to many Nigerians through programmes which focused on health, education, empowerment, capacity building and psychosocial development, among other interventions.

However, she admonished Nigerian leaders and people who are financially solvent to elevate humanity beyond politics and other biases like tribe or religion, which only serve to create walls of discrimination among the people.

The Chief Imam Yoruba of Orozo Community, Adepoju Abdulmajeed Busayo, while thanking the Foundation for their kind gesture, called on the government and other stakeholders to emulate SEF foundation to help cushion the hardship in the society. Busayo

said that the hardship that people are going through as a result of the current economic and security challenges in the country calls for everyone to be their brother’s keeper.

A parent in Orozo Community, Mrs Joy Ruth, who could not hide her happiness commended the Founder/President of the Foundation, Dr. Mrs Aisha Achimugu for the kind gesture and called other organisations to help the needy in the society.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that sideline of the celebration included dancing competition, funfair and food donations to over 5000 person including children, women, youths, elderly and persons with disabilities. (NAN)
