By NAN

Sam Empowerment Foundation (SEF), an NGO, has called on the Federal Government, Nigerian leaders and other well-meaning individuals in the society to prioritize the welfare of the underprivileged for socio-economic development of the country.

Mrs Kiema Ogunlana, the Program Director of the Foundation, made the call during a Sallah party organised by the Foundation, in celebration of the Ramadan season with the indigent people living in Orozo Community in the Federal Capital Territory, FCT.

According to her, the Sallah celebration is an initiative from the Founder/President of the Foundation, Dr. (Mrs) Aisha Achimugu (OFR) with an unwavering passion to improve the quality of lives of Nigerians, especially children and women living in vulnerable conditions in the country.

She added that aside the Sallah party, throughout the entire Ramadan fasting period, about 500 indigent persons, especially orphans and vulnerable children were fed daily across three communities in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT); Karu, Guzape and Garki village.

Our Founder/President, Dr. Aisha Achimugu (OFR) believed it was important for us to organize the feeding program as a way to celebrate the season and demonstrate love and kindness to our fellow Nigerians.

“The program is aimed at alleviating the hunger and suffering of vulnerable people in the community ensuring that no child goes hungry after the fasting,” Ogunlana noted.

She said that the foundation’s impact programs in health, education, empowerment, capacity building and psychosocial development, among other interventions has brought hope, happiness and light to many Nigerians.

However, she urged Nigerian leaders and financially stable individuals to prioritize humanity over politics and other biases such as tribe or religion, which often lead to divisive discrimination among the populace.

The Chief Imam Yoruba of Orozo Central Mosque, Adepoju Abdulmajeed Busayo, while thanking the Foundation for their kind gesture, called on the government and other stakeholders to emulate SEF to help cushion the hardship in the society. Busayo said that the hardship that people are going through as a result of the current economic and security challenges in the country calls for everyone to be their brother’s keeper.

A parent in Orozo Community, Mrs Joy Ruth, who could not hide her happiness commended the Founder/President of the Foundation, Dr. Mrs Aisha Achimugu for the kind gesture and called other organisations to help the needy in the society.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that sideline of the celebration included dancing competition, funfair and food donations to over 5000 person including children, women, youths, elderly and persons with disabilities. (NAN)
