Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu Ohanaeze Ndigbo President, Dies At 82

Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, president-general of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, is dead.

Iwuanyanwu died at 82.

Jide, his son, announced the passing of Iwuanyanwu in a statement on Thursday.

The son said the late Ohanaeze president-general died on Thursday after a brief illness.

He added that the family will announce the burial arrangements after “due consultations”.

Iwuanyanwu was born on September 4, 1942. He hailed from Atta in Ikeduru LGA of Imo state.

He attended St. Patrick’s School, Rukpoku, in Rivers state from 1948 to 1954 and New Bethel College in Onitsha, Anambra state.

He studied civil engineering at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, from 1963 to 1970.

He founded several companies, including Sunrise Breweries Limited, Oriental Shipping Lines, and Magil Agricultural & Animal Health Products Limited, among others.

The late Iwuanyanwu was also the publisher of Champion Newspapers.

He established the Iwuanyanwu Nationale Football Club of Owerri, now known as Heartland F.C.

He was a staunch member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) before he resigned his membership in 2021.
