Kano disburses N5bn gratuity, death benefits

The Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Yusuf, has launched the third phase of disbursement of outstanding retirement and death benefits with N5billion.

Since assuming office, Yusuf’s administration has settled N11billion out of the unpaid backlog of N43billion outstanding pension benefits through two phases.

The governor said the welfare of civil servants is a top priority in his administration as he considers it a system driver.

“One of the major interventions we made immediately after assuming the mantle of leadership was injecting the sum of N69,704,82.33k to settle the backlog of pensioners’ benefits.

“We subsequently made an additional major intervention by releasing N5billion again to pay another 2,216 pensioners.

“As part of our unshakable commitment to honouring the sacrifice and services of our retirees, we are here again to make history.

“I am overwhelmed with joy today as I launch the third phase of gratuity and death benefits payment which will directly impact 2,000 beneficiaries within the state.

“We have earmarked the total sum of N5billion to settle their entitlement.

“Also, we have made an upward review of the minimum pension from N5,000 to N20,000 for pensioners.”

Yusuf said the upward review is to address the impact of inflation and purchasing power of pensioners in the state.

He promised continuous justice, equity and compassion in his administration.
