Breaking News: Former Military Leader Buhari Loses 40-Year Old Daughter

NEWS of the death of Zulai, the eldest daughter of retired military General Muhammadu Buhari, has just reached sharpedgenews.com

The younger Buhari, aged 40, reportedly died earlier on Thursday from complications that followed her delivery of a baby two days prior.

Delivered of her baby at the private Chasel Hospital in Kaduna, Zulai developed complications that led to her unfortunate demise. She reportedly suffered from sickle-cell anemia, a genetic disease of the blood known, mostly, to afflict Africans.

Her newborn infant is however in good condition.

Ms. Zulai’s death shines a spotlight on a little-known genetic ailment that is almost exclusively African. It was first recorded as an ailment in 1909 by James Henrrick, although experts are of the opinion that it has been around for much longer.

Perhaps because the existence of the disease is not very well known, the date June 19 has been set aside as World Sickle Cell Day by the United Nations to garner awareness.

Her death is the second death of the daughter of a high-profile Congress for Progressive Change chieftain, following the November 28, 2011 death of Yasmine el-Rufai, daughter of Nasir el-Rufai, a former minister of the Federal Capital Territory in the Obasanjo Administration.

The much younger Yasmine, 25, died after an undisclosed ailment while studying  in London, England. Her death, incidentally, is almost exactly a year to the death of Ms. Zulai Buhari
