Church of Nigeria Creates 15 New Dioceses

The Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion) has announced the creation of 15 new dioceses across the country. The decision, which was formally ratified on 18th September 2025, includes the establishment of five full-fledged dioceses and ten missionary dioceses.

Full-Fledged Dioceses

  1. Ekiti South Diocese (from Ekiti Diocese)
  2. Kalabari Diocese (from Niger Delta Diocese)
  3. Lagos South West Diocese (from Lagos West Diocese)
  4. Omoku Diocese (from Ahoada Diocese)
  5. Ozoro Diocese (from Oleh Diocese)

Missionary Dioceses

  1. Eket Diocese (from Uyo Diocese)
  2. Idanre Diocese (from Akure Diocese)
  3. Ikom Diocese (from Calabar Diocese)
  4. Keffi Diocese (from Kubwa and Lafia Dioceses)
  5. Nasarawa Diocese (from Lafia Diocese)
  6. Ogoja Diocese (from Calabar Diocese)
  7. Oyo South Diocese (from Oyo Diocese)
  8. Oyun Diocese (from Kwara Diocese)
  9. Takum Diocese (from Jalingo Diocese)
  10. Zulu Diocese (from Kebbi Diocese)

Church leaders noted that the creation of the new dioceses reflects the continued growth of the Anglican Communion in Nigeria, as well as its commitment to strengthening mission work and expanding administrative structures to meet the needs of its growing membership.
