Addis Ababa, Ethiopia — The Executive Director of the Center for Peace Advocacy and Sustainable Development (CEPASD) and Convener of the Youth Model African Union (YMAU), Augustine Igweshi, has urged the African Union (AU) to intensify efforts toward the ratification and implementation of key continental frameworks that advance youth empowerment and mobility.
During a high-level meeting with the AU Chairperson, Igweshi underscored the importance of three policy priorities:
- Ratification of the African Youth Charter
- Ratification of the AU Protocol on Free Movement of Persons
- Domestication of the AU Continental Framework on Youth, Peace, and Security
He emphasized that meaningful youth participation is essential for the realization of Agenda 2063 and called for greater political commitment at the Member State level.
Ratifying these frameworks is critical for strengthening youth leadership, enabling free movement, and building a peaceful and integrated continent,” Igweshi stated.
While presenting the African Transformer Magazine, Igweshi highlighted that young Africans are ready to contribute to diplomacy, governance, and peacebuilding if given the enabling environment.
The AU Chairperson commended the initiative and reaffirmed AU’s readiness to work closely with youth-led institutions to advance inclusive governance and continental unity.
CEPASD continues to champion youth participation, sustainable development, and peacebuilding across Africa.
