the Federal Government of Nigeria and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) have reached a landmark agreement that includes a 40% salary increase for academic staff in public universities, set to take effect from January 1, 2026. The agreement, finalized on December 23, 2025, concludes the renegotiation of the 2009 FGN–ASUU Agreement. It includes a 40% salary increase for academic staff, enhanced pension benefits, a new funding model, and a proposed National Research Council. The agreement will be reviewed after three years.
