Is Gani Adams Above The Law?

Gani Adams, the erstwhile National Coordinator of Oodua’s Peoples’ Congress, OPC has over the years positioned himself as being above the law of the land.

Looking at the way and manner, he has conducted himself in the last few years, Adams has virtually turned himself into a mini-god whose power must be substituted with that of God.

Noticeable among his penchant for violation of rule of law, was the anti-Jega rally organized on March 16, 2015. The anti-Jega rally which he stage-managed in his failed bid to scuttle the 2015 elections was funded by tax-payers money (loot) he got from the government of former president Goodluck Jonathan.

The last year’s anti-Jega rally marked a negative turning point in the history of Oodua Peoples’ Congress which mission was the emancipation of the Yoruba race. By that action, Gani Adams brought the name of OPC into great disrepute. It was based on that, an informal group of leaders of the OPC, (the Revolution Council) met and reviewed the incident, with wide consultations with other stakeholders and National Coordinating Council (NCC) members rightly disassociated the OPC from the Adam’s madness.

It is now a year that we kicked against Gani Adams’ tyranny and fragrant abuse of office. Now that it is obvious that Gani Adams has lost the support of majority of OPC members, he has resorted to cheap blackmail and inciting violence.

For Gani Adams to respond to sundry allegations of misappropriation of the group funds which leaders and National Coordinating Council of the OPC have leveled against him, he is now threatening the lives of leaders who have passed a vote of no confidence on him.

Like a wounded lion, Adams is now fanning embers of disunity among members of the OPC. Having gotten away with many atrocities in the past, Gani Adams is once again showing that he is above the law. He is planning to unleash terror on those opposed to him both in OPC and
Political circle. And if it is anything like previous instances before this, then the South-West and indeed the whole of Nigeria should expect a catastrophic scenario as we will do everything to defend ourselves.

That is a God given right – the right to self defense – that cannot be taken away from us. An attestation to this, is the arrest today of two members of Gani Adams killer squad at Ketu, Lagos by the men of the Nigeria Police Force and transferred to the Force Headquarter. Already, the arrested hoodlums are already making confessional statement indicting Gani Adams.

Having successfully sent Adams packing from the OPC like his predecessor, our efforts are now directed towards the recovery of all the OPC funds and properties he held in trust and had misappropriated and mismanaged.

As a group of law abiding citizens, we are committed to recovering the loot through all peaceful and legal means available to us. To that end, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and other relevant agencies in Nigeria state have been informed to take necessary action.

Similarly, we intend to write to alert all embassies and consulates in Nigeria of the need to deny Adams and his cohort visas to travel out of Nigeria, as this may aid their attempt to flee from imminent prosecution and justice. The names of fugitive accomplices and cohorts that have already left the shores of this country and are domiciled abroad would also be included in the list.

On a final note, we appeal to all members of the OPC and the Nigerian public in general to bear with us as we engage in this nascent reorganization. It is all geared to enable us serve you better.
We use this medium to call on the Lagos State governor, Speaker of the House of Assembly and other Security Agencies in the State to re-visit the anti-Jega rally held in Lagos on March 16, 2015. Gani Adams is not above the law of the land and it is necessary for us as a nation to ensure that people like Adams are brought to book for various atrocities he has committed.
