Col. Samaila Inusa, who was abducted on Sunday, March 27, 2016, was on Tuesday found dead.
The Nigerian Army in its Twitter handle confirmed the story.
In a tweet via its verified Twitter handle, @HQNigerianArmy, the Army announced: “Nigerian Army wishes to regrettably inform the public that Col Samaila Inusa who was kidnapped on Sunday, March 27, 2016 was found dead today (Tuesday, March 29, 2016).
A statement signed by Army spokesperson, Col Usman Abdul, stated that Inusa was a serving officer at the Nigerian Army School of Infantry in Jaji, Kaduna.
It said his abductors kidnapped him at Kamazo Chikkun Local Government Area near NNPC junction, Kaduna.
The statement said his abductors dropped off his wife and “left with him in his car and headed towards Abuja.
“They are in a Mercedes Benz GLK Black colousaidwith registration number Abuja, KUJ 154 TZ.
“This happened at about 7:30pm on Saturday 26 March 2016″, it said.
During the search, the Nigerian Army had increased the cash reward it promised to give anyone with useful information that would help in the rescue of the abducted Colonel, from N500,000 to N1m.
The statement reads: “The Nigerian Army wishes to regrettably inform the public that Colonel Samaila Inusa, who was kidnapped on Sunday 27th March 2016, was found dead today at about 6.00pm,” spokesperson for the Army, Sani Usman, said in a statement.
“Preliminary investigation revealed that most likely the late senior officer was killed same day he was kidnapped by his abductors. This is because the body was found already decomposing around Ajyaita village off Eastern Bypass Kaduna, Kaduna State.
“Arrangements are in progress to move the body to 44 Nigerian Army Reference Hospital, Kaduna. May His soul rest in peace, Amen.
“We wish to state in unmistakeable terms that whoever is behind his abduction and murder would be fished out to face the full wrath of the law.”
The late Colonel was abducted and whisked away in his Mercedes-Benz car by gunmen suspected to be kidnappers around Kamazo, along Kaduna Refinery Road, in Chikun local government area of Kaduna State.
