KEY SENATORS DEFECT TO APC IN MAJOR LEGISLATIVE SHAKE-UP

In a move that significantly reshapes the political landscape of the National Assembly, two prominent lawmakers from Taraba State have officially defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Senator Shuaibu Lau and Senator Haruna Manu formally announced their departure from their previous party, joining the ruling party ranks in a session marked by high-level political maneuvering.

They were welcomed into the fold by fellow party stalwarts, including Senator Asuquo Ekpenyong, signaling a strategic consolidation of power for the APC in the Northeast.

The defection of Lau and Manu is seen as a major blow to the opposition, as both senators wield considerable influence within their constituencies and the Red Chamber.

Senator Shuaibu Lau, a seasoned legislator, and Senator Haruna Manu, the former Deputy Governor of Taraba State, cited the need to align with the center to attract more federal development to their home state as a primary motivator for the switch.

Their arrival was met with cheers from APC members, who view this “double win” as a testament to the party’s growing momentum ahead of upcoming legislative cycles.
With these new additions, the APC further solidifies its majority leadership in the Senate, providing the executive branch with a more streamlined path for policy approvals and budgetary confirmations.

Senator Asuquo Ekpenyong, representing Cross River South, noted that the inclusion of his “distinguished brothers” from Taraba strengthens the party’s national character and legislative synergy.

As the dust settles on this high-profile migration, all eyes remain on the Taraba political corridors to see how this shift will influence local governance and future electoral dynamics.
