A faction of the Campaign for Democracy, CD, has condemned, in strong terms, the protest staged at Abuja in solidarity with the embattled Senate
President, Bukola Saraki, led by A CD leader and renowned woman activist, Joe Okei-Odumakin.
The CD, in a statement by its President,Comrade Ifeanyi Odili, and General Secreatary, Comrade Abdullahi Jabi, described Okei-Odumakin’s action as shameful and disappointing.
In a statement on Wednesday, the CD said, “Over the years, Odumakin has been known to many of us for such unwanted and un-nationalistic deals with the people at the corridors of power. She
has been using the platform of the CD to organize scanty protests insupport of corrupt leaders in the country, and bring back our girls campaign which she never believed in.
“It is astonishing that while all the civil society groups are condemning the senate president over his refusal to resign as senate president, pending the determination of his case at the Code of
Conduct Tribunal CCT, certain irresponsible and hungry individuals are staging protest against his resignation. This attests that they are not members of Campaign for Democracy CD, but mere unscrupulous elements around us. Nigerians know what CD stands for, transparency,
strict compliance with democratic norms, rule of law etc.
“Any group of individuals staging support for Saraki at this period that Nigeria is striving to recover her looted money should be seen as agroup of irresponsible Nigerians, who should be mobbed by Nigerian
masses.
Consequently, we call on the Senate President, Sen. Bukola Saraki torespect the integrity of the nation, and resign honourably instead of embarking on wasteful adventure or allowing himself to be fooled by
falling into the hands of scammers, who cannot help him out, but willrather complicate his quantum of troubles,”the group averred.
