Fulani Herdsmen : We Will Continue To Protect Yoruba-NCC

Urges Yorubas to Disregard Gani Adams’ Statement

. Following a statement credited to the National Coordinator of Oodua Peoples Congress, OPC, Otunba Gani Adams that the group would no longer protect Yorubas from attacks; the National Coordinating Council of the group has urged Yoruba people to disregard the statement, saying that it does not represent the position of OPC on the issue.

NCC in a statement signed by its spokesman, Adesina Akinpelu said the statement by Adams was his personal opinion and that he is not in any way speaking for OPC.

“I want to first of all correct the misconception that Gani Adams is the leader of OPC because the National Coordinating Council of the group had expelled him. Any statement credited to Gani Adams does not represent OPC as a group. Number two, the purpose to which OPC was formed is for emancipation and protection of Yoruba people anywhere they are unjustly maltreated. We have not reneged on this pledge and we will continue to protect Yoruba people from any form of attack-internal or external.”

NCC added that it was very disappointed but not surprised that Gani Adams would utter such statement.

“Such careless and nonsensical statement will continue to come out of a man who has sacrificed his conscience on the altar of politics and materialism. Since he is no longer relevant in OPC and that is why he is looking for another way to make himself relevant so that Yoruba leaders can persuade him withdraw his careless statement.”

The group equally berated the federal government on the shoot-at-sight-order issued against Niger-Delta Avengers and wondered why same shoot-at-sight-order was not applicable to Fulani herdsmen?

“Now is time for federal government to equally deplore all its resources to tackle the menace of Fulani herdsmen who are killing innocent members of the public almost on daily basis. As Yoruba people, we have lost more than 1000 people to Boko Haram and we would defend and protect our people from now on from any attack from Fulani herdsmen or any group.”

Also speaking on the faceoff between Labour Union and Oyo State government; NCC urged both sides to settle their differences amicably.

“The Governor should realize that he cannot fight Labour union by incarcerating its members. He will definitely need them and that is why he must allow peace to reign.”
