Former Nigerian Intelligence, Czar Umaru Shinkafi, is dead

Former Nigerian Intelligence chief, Alhaji Umaru Shinkafi, finally took an exit off an active stage of life, in a London hospital,

after a protracted illness of Wednesday at about 4:00 p.m. local time. Alhaji Shinkafi was a thoroughbred intelligence operative, who later became the Chief of Nigerian Security Organization (NSO) from 1979 to 1983. He was a serial presidential aspirant of the platform of the National Republican Convention (NRC) where he ran neck to neck with Malam Adamu Ciroma during the defunct third republic midwived by self-styled military president, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida. He also ran as an aspirant on the platform of All Peoples Party (APP) before he was paired on a joint ticket as Chief Olu Falae’s vice presidential candidate on the platform of AD-APP alliance in 1999, a race which they lost to Obasanjo-Atiku of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Shinkafi, who hailed from Sokoto state, was a minister of internal affairs. He was a big political spender with tentacles spread across Nigeria. He was turbaned Marafan-Sokoto of the royal council of the Sultan of Sokoto.
