As part of efforts to improve sanitation and service delivery in public health institutions, Cross River Commissioner for Health, Dr. Henry Ayuk, has embarked on the inspection of ongoing reconstruction of a major soakaway facility at the General Hospital Calabar.
The inspection was carried out alongside the Medical Superintendent of the hospital, Dr. Kenneth Takim, who is overseeing the project.
Ayuk expressed satisfaction with the commencement of work, describing the intervention as timely and critical to maintaining proper environmental health standards within the facility.
“I am delighted that work has commenced. I commend the Medical Superintendent and his team for their proactive efforts,” he said.
The Commissioner noted that the reconstruction of the soakaway system would significantly enhance waste management, reduce sanitation risks, and create a safer environment for both patients and healthcare workers.
He reiterated the state government’s commitment to strengthening healthcare infrastructure across the State, adding that ongoing upgrades in health facilities are aimed at improving the quality of care and overall patient experience.
