Encomium Flows as Shina Fatai Alege Launches Five Books in Abuja

Abuja — Former Nigerian Ambassador to Ukraine, Shina Fatai Alege, on Wednesday officially launched five books at a well-attended ceremony held at the Nigeria Merit Award House, in what many described as a gathering of intellectuals, diplomats, and policy influencers.

The event attracted a wide range of guests, including members of the diplomatic corps, legal experts, academics, government officials, and other stakeholders in governance and development discourse. The atmosphere was marked by reflections on leadership, public service, and the importance of documenting national and international experiences.

In his opening remarks, former Chief Justice of Nigeria, Olukayode Ariwoola, described the literary works as a significant contribution to knowledge and national development. He noted that the books demonstrate the value of experience gained through years of service in diplomacy and public administration.

Justice Ariwoola further stated that the publications offer important insights into governance, international relations, and leadership challenges. According to him, such works are useful not only to scholars but also to policymakers seeking practical understanding of statecraft and global engagement.

Also speaking at the event, former Ogun State Governor, Ibikunle Amosun, who was represented by Barrister Ahmed Raji, SAN, commended Ambassador Alege for his commitment to documenting his diplomatic journey. He described the books as a reflection of dedication, discipline, and years of national service.

He added that literary contributions of this nature help preserve historical records and provide learning material for future generations. He also praised the ambassador’s role in international assignments, particularly during sensitive periods involving Nigerian citizens abroad.

Shina Fatai Alege, while speaking, said the books were inspired by his experiences in diplomatic service, reflections on governance, and observations on global and regional affairs. He explained that writing the books was part of his effort to contribute to knowledge and national development.

He further noted that the publications are recommended for Nigerian readers, especially students, policymakers, researchers, and young professionals who seek deeper understanding of leadership, security, and international relations. He emphasized that the works are meant to provoke reflection and guide informed decision-making.

The five books unveiled include The Sirens and the Flag: A Nigerian Ambassador’s Journal from the War in Ukraine, Insecurity and Regional Leadership in Africa: Nigeria’s Aspiratory Hegemony under Multiplex Threats, The Expiry Date of Power: How Abu-Superior Learned Too Late, The Last Ride: Five Stops Before Goodbye, and When the House Was Not on Fire.

The event concluded with goodwill messages from guests, book presentations, and commendations for Ambassador Alege’s literary and diplomatic contributions, with attendees describing the works as a valuable addition to Nigeria’s intellectual and policy literature.
