The Labour Party has extended warm greetings to Muslims across Nigeria and around the world on the occasion of Eid-el-Kabir, calling on Nigerians to embrace the values of sacrifice, compassion, justice and peaceful coexistence as the country navigates economic and social challenges. In a statement issued on Wednesday by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Ken Eluma Asogwa, the opposition party described Eid al-Adha as a sacred festival that embodies the virtues of faith, obedience and total submission to the will of God, as demonstrated by Prophet Ibrahim. The party noted that the lessons of the festival remain relevant not only to adherents of Islam but also to leaders and citizens seeking to build a more just, peaceful and compassionate society.According to the statement, Eid al-Adha serves as a reminder of the importance of selflessness, humility and commitment to the service of humanity. The Labour Party urged Nigerians to use the occasion for deep reflection, spiritual renewal and strengthening relationships within their communities.“Eid al-Adha symbolizes the profound faith, obedience, sacrifice and total submission exemplified by Prophet Ibrahim in his devotion to Almighty Allah. These enduring virtues remain timeless lessons not only for the faithful but also for leaders and citizens alike,” the statement said. The party emphasized that beyond the celebrations and festivities associated with the holiday, the season presents an opportunity for citizens to recommit themselves to the ideals of love, tolerance, mutual respect and national unity.Highlighting the nation’s current realities, the Labour Party expressed concern over the economic hardship, insecurity, hunger and growing social and ethno-religious tensions confronting many Nigerians. It argued that the values promoted by Eid al-Adha have become increasingly important at a time when many citizens are facing difficult living conditions. The party therefore called on Nigerians to demonstrate greater compassion and generosity, particularly towards vulnerable members of society, including the poor and less privileged. It also urged political leaders and public office holders to govern with fairness, justice and empathy, stressing that the welfare and protection of citizens should remain the primary responsibility of government at all levels.According to the Labour Party, the principles of justice, equity and concern for the wellbeing of the people, which are central to Islamic teachings, should guide leadership decisions and public service. The party said the current challenges facing the country require leaders to place national interest above personal ambitions and political considerations while working sincerely to improve the living conditions of Nigerians.Describing the period as a defining moment for leadership, the statement called on those in positions of authority to take deliberate steps toward alleviating poverty, addressing insecurity and restoring hope among citizens. The Labour Party further prayed for peace, unity and prosperity across the country, expressing hope that the sacrifices and acts of worship offered during the Eid celebration would be accepted by Almighty Allah. It also wished Muslims and all Nigerians a joyous and peaceful celebration, praying that the festival would bring divine blessings, mercy and renewed hope to families across the nation. The message comes as Muslims worldwide prepare to commemorate Eid-el-Kabir, one of Islam’s most significant festivals, which celebrates faith, sacrifice and obedience to God while encouraging charity and support for the needy. The Labour Party concluded its goodwill message by urging Nigerians to remain united despite their differences and to continue working together for a more peaceful, prosperous and inclusive nation.“Eid Mubarak to all Nigerians. May this celebration bring abundant blessings, divine mercy, peace and renewed hope to every home,” the party stated.
