The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and Nigerian Institute of Transport Technology (NITT), Zaria, have signed an MoU.
The agreement covers advanced training, capacity development, research, and innovation in Nigeria’s transport sector.
The Corps Public Education Officer, Osondu Ohaeri, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday in Abuja.
Ohaeri said the partnership was executed by FRSC Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, and NITT Director-General, Dr Bayero Farah.
He said the agreement would reshape Nigeria’s transport ecosystem by raising standards and strengthening institutional capacity.
According to him, the partnership would position the transport sector for improved global competitiveness.
Mohammed described the MoU as a defining milestone in Nigeria’s road transport development.
He said the collaboration reflected a commitment to creating “a safer, smarter and more efficient transportation system”.
The FRSC marshal said the partnership would expand specialised training, research, technology, and knowledge exchange.
He added that it would improve driver training, human capital development, and road safety practices.
Mohammed said existing cooperation between FRSC and NITT had produced significant results over time.
He noted that the formal agreement would open “a new chapter of innovation and institutional excellence”.
The FRSC boss said the partnership would strengthen research capabilities and modernise driver training centres.
He added that ICT-driven learning would produce globally competitive transport professionals.
Mohammed described the MoU as an actionable framework rather than “a ceremonial document”.
He said it would accelerate reforms and address emerging mobility and road safety challenges.
Farah praised the FRSC for its leadership and commitment during negotiations for the agreement.
He said the MoU would align transport education and professional training with global best practices.
The NITT director-general said the partnership would produce manpower capable of driving sustainable development.
The ceremony was attended by stakeholders, including representatives of AAI and other transport sector leaders. (NAN) (www.nannews.ng)
