Chief Dr. Kolawole Adewoyin, the authentic National President of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), has strongly condemned the continued public assertion by Alhaji Abubakar Maigandi Shettima and his purported executive members that they remain the IPMAN National Executive — despite multiple court rulings removing them and a Form 49 (notice to show cause for committal) having been issued against them.
The statement follows reports that Comrade Salimon Akanni Oladiti, the newly elected National President of the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG), on Wednesday 24 June 2026 took Alhaji Shettima to meet with Nuhu Ribadu, the National Security Adviser.
Chief Adewoyin described the meeting as deeply regrettable and warned that it lends dangerous legitimacy to persons who have been declared by the courts to be impostors.
“It is very sad these people have shown great disregard to law of the land. Courts in Nigeria, including the Supreme Court, have all given judgments on the illegality of their actions. A Form 49 — “Notice to Show Cause Why Order of Commital Should Not Be Made” — has been issued against Alhaji Abubakar Shettima and others for contempt, reflecting the court’s finding that the persons targeted have persisted in acting contrary to judicial orders.”
Chief Adeowyin has, therefore, called on the NUPENG leadership to immediately withdraw any recognition of Alhaji Shettima and his purported executive and to publicly clarify that they will only engage with the authentic IPMAN leadership.
He also urged the Inspector General of Police, Tunji Disu, and all security agencies—including those under the Office of the National Security Adviser, to respect court orders and stop recognising or facilitating the activities of the impostors.
He also called on Nuhu Ribadu, the National Security Adviser, to decline any engagement premised on false representation and to ensure his office does not confer legitimacy on persons under court sanction.
Dangote Refinery, NNPC, and all industry stakeholders, partners, and service providers should also suspend all formal recognition, communications, and transactions with Alhaji Shettima and his named associates, pending resolution of the contempt proceedings and full compliance with the courts.
Furthermore, relevant regulatory bodies and corporate entities should require the production of valid evidence of lawful officeholders before conducting official business with any IPMAN representatives.”
He reiterated that the authentic National President of IPMAN is Chief Dr. Kolawole Adewoyin, and that he alone speaks and negotiates on behalf of the association’s legitimate national executive.
He warned that continuing to treat impostors as lawful leadership jeopardizes regulatory compliance, contractual integrity, and industry stability.”
