The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has clarified reports circulating across social media and some online platforms alleging that a serving military officer, Colonel Abdussalam A. Ude, was attacked by suspected kidnappers within the Federal Capital Territory.

FCT Police Command, SP Josephine Adeh, ANIPR, MIPRA issued to news men in Abuja on Wednesday.
While acknowledging the seriousness of the reported incident, the Command wishes to categorically state that the incident did not occur within the Federal Capital Territory.
According to the Command, immediately the report came to its attention, the Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, PhD, FCAI, directed a comprehensive investigation to establish the true circumstances surrounding the incident.
Findings from the investigation confirmed that the alleged attack occurred in Badna, New Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, and not within the jurisdiction of the FCT Police Command as widely portrayed in the circulating reports.
The Command expressed concern over what it described as the deliberate misrepresentation of the incident by some blogs and media outlets seeking online engagement, noting that the false attribution to the FCT had unnecessarily heightened public anxiety, created avoidable panic among residents, and distorted the true security situation in the nation’s capital.
Despite the incident occurring outside the FCT, the Commissioner of Police has ordered the immediate deployment of additional operational and intelligence assets to border communities adjoining Nasarawa State. The proactive measure is aimed at preventing criminal elements from infiltrating the Federal Capital Territory or carrying out any criminal activities within Abuja and its environs.
The FCT Police Command further condemned the dissemination of false and unverified security reports, urging media organisations, bloggers, and social media users to uphold the ethics of responsible journalism by verifying security-related information with the appropriate authorities before publication.
According to the Command, the spread of unverified reports not only misinforms the public but also undermines confidence in security agencies and fuels unnecessary fear among residents.
The Police reassured residents that the security architecture across the Federal Capital Territory remains robust and that all relevant agencies continue to work collaboratively to ensure the safety of lives and property.
Residents are therefore urged to remain calm, vigilant, and law-abiding while carrying on with their lawful activities. They are also encouraged to promptly report any suspicious persons, movements, or activities to the nearest police station or through the FCT Police Command’s emergency communication channels.
