Oyo condemns violence in Ibadan

… holds Town Hall Meeting in Saki Tuesday

The Oyo State Government has condemned the activities of hoodlums who invaded the Kudeti and Isale Asaka areas of Ibadan saying that it would use the full

apparatus of government to deal with any individual who engages in violence that is inimical to the peace in the state. 

Also, in furtherance of its drive to engage the citizens on government programmes and activities, the State Government will organize another series of its town hall meeting on Tuesday, December 13, 2016 in Saki area of the state.  

A statement issued and signed by the Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, Mr. Toye Arulogun on Friday in Ibadan said that the government has directed the relevant security agencies to deal with the hooligans, adding that such acts of thuggery and hooliganism would not be condoned in the state again. 

The government appealed to residents of the affected areas to remain calm and consequently called on security agencies in the state to increase their presence in the areas and other areas too in order to forestall a recurrence of the ugly incidents. “We want to assure our people that we value their well-being, lives and property and we will at all times live up to expectations to provide security for them,” the commissioner added. 

Arulogun said that the government would beef up security around the state during the festive period, stating that security, which is the foundation of development, would not be trivialized or taken lightly.

The commissioner explained that the town hall meeting which is to be held in Saki is one in a series of such to be organized by the state government in order to have direct interaction and feedback from the citizens. The town hall meeting will serve as a platform for communication and engagement between the government, the governed and other key stakeholders stressing that the meeting to be conducted in Yoruba and English languages would hold at the Harmony Gardens, Gedu Estate in Saki for citizens in the ten local government areas of the Oke Ogun area of the state.

The government spokesman said that the town hall meeting in Saki will ride on the success of the Ibadan version to adequately inform the people of Oke Ogun about Government’s policies, plans, programmes and activities, as well as directly obtaining dependable feedback in addition to effectively forestall misinformation, misunderstanding, rumour peddling, mischief and other erroneous impressions that may end up misleading the general public. 

Arulogun said that government  is committed to drive this engagement initiative around the state with a view to further effectively enlighten and mobilize the populace/citizenry towards understanding and supporting the vision of government.
