SENATE CHIEF WHIP SENATOR MONGUNO LEADS CHARGE AS SENATE PROBES TANSIAN UNIVERSITY OVER REGULATORY VIOLATIONS

Most distinguished Senator Muhammed Tahir Monguno, Esq., the Senate Chief Whip, has driven the legislative momentum as the Nigerian Senate ordered an immediate investigation into Tansian University, Umunya, Anambra State, over alleged administrative excesses and breaches of National Universities Commission (NUC) regulations.

Prompted by a motion from Senator Victor Umeh regarding the institution’s disregard for due process in personnel matters, Senate President Godswill Akpabio directed the relevant committee to probe the university’s operations, warning that institutions found violating the law could face severe actions, including potential proscription.

The probe coincides with the Senate consideration of an executive bill read by Senator Monguno to repeal the National Universities Commission Act and establish a robust legal framework to strengthen the NUC enforcement powers, update minimum academic standards, and refine accreditation processes.

Highlighting the National Assembly oversight responsibility, lawmakers emphasized that reinforcing the apex regulatory body is essential to improve quality assurance, curb administrative violations, and ensure Nigerian universities maintain global competitiveness.
